T2

T2 instances can simply be interpreted as Burstable Performance Instances which are designed with the intent of offering a baseline level of CPU performance with the capability to burst above the baseline. The CPU credits are assigned to the T2 instances at a regular rate based on the size of the instance. These CPU credits will get utilized when the instances become active.

T2 instances are a better option to be used in the instances which doesn’t require full CPU consistently but rarely requires bursting. These instances are well suited for general purpose environments which include workloads related to small databases, web servers & developer environments.

M4

M4 instances can simply be interpreted as the instances that are used for general purpose applications. The M4 instance types have the capability of offering well-balanced memory, network, and computer resources and are generally considered as a better option for a number of general purpose applications. They make use of custom Intel Xeon E5-2676 v3 Haswell processors. And by making the use of Intel Turbo Boot the clock rate for these instances ranges to 2.4 GHz to 3.0 GHz.

M3

The M3 instance type is used for the purpose of availing balanced memory, network and compute resources. M3 instances are also used for general purpose applications in virtual machines. M3 instances will be the best fit for mid-size and small databases, for performing different data processing jobs that seek additional memory usage, to run backend servers for SAP, cluster computing, and many other such high-level applications.

Compute-optimized instances

C4

C4 instances are the latest addition to the compute-optimized instances. The main feature of these instances is low computed/price performance. C4 instances make use of custom 2.9 GHz Intel Xeon E5-2666 v3 processor. By making use of the Intel Turbo Boost technology the clock speed of C4 instances touches up to 3.5 GHz.

C3

Compared to C1 the C3 instances are best preferred for offering much faster processors with about twice the memory per SSD-based. C3 instances are used for applications that make use of large compute capacity for memory & are also used for several intensive computing applications.

R3

R3 instances are extensively used for various memory-intensive applications and their best feature is that they are less expensive for each GiB of RAM.

Dense-storage Instances

D2

D2 instances are extensively used and are the most preferred instances for the purpose of storage as they can offer up to 48 TB of HDD-based storage i.e., it offers a huge disk space at a very low price scale
